「幻想 135年目の回航 −二等巡洋艦 畝傍−」
“Illusion: The 135th Year of Voyage -Protected Cruiser Unebi-”作品は、入港予定の横濱港を目指し、冠雪した富士を横目に相模湾を帆走中の「畝傍」を描いたものです。日本艦でありながら日本を見る事すら叶わなかった同艦に対し、絵の中だけでもその回航を実現させたいという強い想いを、作者はかねてより持ち続けていました。そこで「畝傍」が姿を消した明治19年から数え、実に135年目となる令和3年、気持ちを整えて制作する事を決めました。試行錯誤と苦難の連続でしたが、ようやく日本に到達した「畝傍」を描く事ができました。艦上に描かれた回航員たちに注目。回航中に行方不明となった彼らは、135年の時を経て、白く輝く「日本の象徴」を眺めつつ最終目的地を目指します。
This work depicts Unebi sailing in Sagami Bay with
snow-capped Fuji on her side, heading for Yokohama Harbor, where she is
scheduled to enter port. I have long had a strong desire to complete the voyage
of the Unebi, which was a Japanese ship but never got to see Japan, even if
only in my pencil drawing. So, in 2021, the 135th year since 1887 when Unebi disappeared,
I decided to make up my mind and draw a pencil portrait of her. Please take
note of the crew members depicted on board the Unebi. They were lost during the
cruise, and after 135 years, they are heading for their final destination while
gazing at the shining white "symbol of Japan".
