　作品の「大和」は、天一号作戦参加時の最終状態を描いたものです。木製甲板は黒く塗られ、中央構造物周辺には24門の連装高角砲、150門を越える対空機関銃が装備されており、その姿はまるでハリネズミのようで、あたかも自らが大艦巨砲主義の終焉を語っているようです。作品のシーンは、昭和20年4月6日に戦艦大和が徳山沖を出撃し、豊後水道の大分県佐賀関高島沖合を南下中の様子です。出撃していく者たちとの別れを惜しむようにイルカたちが追い、上空にカモメが舞います。愛する故郷、大切な人たちのために出立する「もののふ」たち― その彼らを思う者たちは、その後を追い、すがる事はもはや出来ません。しかし、その「思い」は、海も空をも越えて彼らを追う事ができるのです。この思いを魂として、「惜別の刻」と名付けた当作品に込めました。。

This work shows the Yamato as she appeared in Operation Ten Go 1, her last battle. The wooden decks are painted black, around the superstructure are 24 12.7/40 Type 89 anti-aircraft guns, more than 150 anti-aircraft machine guns are added, her air defense bristling like a hedgehog, it is as if she herself is speaking of the end of big-boat big-arms policy.
The scene of the work is the battleship Yamato sailing out of Tokuyama on April 6, 1945, and heading south off Takashima, Saganoseki, Oita Prefecture, in the Bungo Channel. As if regretting the departure of these warriors, many dolphins can be seen, sea gulls circle in the sky. These warriors are leaving behind their homeland, their loved ones, they go forward resolutely, without regret to meet their fate. The dolphins and sea gulls represent the concern felt by those loved ones left behind. Thusly, this work is named, “The reluctant parting”.
