“Echoes of the Waves of the Mediterranean -Battleship RM Conte di Cavour 1938-”

　コンテ・ディ・カブール級は、イタリア王国海軍が第一次世界大戦中に建造したド級戦艦です。フランス海軍のダンケルク級に対抗するため、同級の「コンテ・ディ・カブール」と「ジュリオ・チェザーレ」は、新技術が投入された大規模改装の後、1937年に近代戦艦として生まれ変わりました。
　作品は、どっしりと低く構えた近代戦艦然となった2隻が、雲間から差す光を背に受けつつ、地中海で艦隊行動を行う光景を描いたものです。ほぼ正面寄りの角度からの望遠で艦を描いた作品は少ないですが、作者お気に入りの一品です。



The Conte di Cavour class battleships were dreadnoughts built by the Royal Italian Navy during World War I. To compete with the French Navy's Dunkerque class, the Conte di Cavour and her sister ship, the Giulio Cesare, were reborn as modern battleships in 1937 after an extensive refit in which new technology was introduced.
This work depicts a majestic scene of two modern battleships engaged in fleet operations in the Mediterranean Sea, with the light shining through the clouds at their backs. There are few works that depict the ship in telephoto from an almost frontal angle, but this is one of my favorites.
