「Spring Snow −護衛艦 はるゆき−」

“Spring Snow -Destroyer JS Haruyuki-”

　「はるゆき」（JS Haruyuki, DD-128）は、はつゆき型護衛艦の7番艦。艦名は「春に降る雪」即ち「春雪」に由来します。この艦名は、帝国海軍と海上自衛隊の歴史上、初めて命名された名前です。
作品は、「はるゆき」の元乗組員の方からご依頼頂いたもので、航海を終えて母港である佐世保港に帰港した同艦を描いたものです。同艦はタグボートに押されて、岸壁に近づきつつあり、その前部甲板では、乗組員たちが接岸のための作業中です。ご依頼主様からのご要望もあり、背景には赤崎岳、そして戻って来た艦を迎えるように飛ぶカモメを描きました。「Spring Snow」は、同艦のニックネームです。



JS Haruyuki (DD-128) is the seventh ship of the Hatsuyuki class destroyers. The ship's name is derived from "春雪" meaning "snow falling in spring". This is the first time that this name has been borne by a ship of both the Imperial Japanese Navy and the Japan Maritime Self Defense Force.
This work was commissioned by a former crew member of the Haruyuki and depicts the ship returning to her home port of Sasebo after completing her voyage. The ship is approaching the quay, pushed by a tugboat, and on its forward deck, the crew is working to berth. At the request of the client, I drew Mount Akazaki in the background and a seagull flying to greet the returning ship. "Spring Snow" is the ship's nickname.
